Group Gateshead
Monthly Discussion Meetings
Tuesday 6th June - Margaret Hedley will lead off
on 'Life in a 19th Century Durham
Mining Community'
This
was simply one of the best presented talks we have ever had. Margaret
concentrated on the role and experience of women in the east Durham
mining communities of Wheatley Hill and Thornley. Her enquiry started
as a piece of family history but it has broadened into a full length
study. The depth of the study is quite unusual in working class
family history. Margaret has told some of the story in the forthcoming
volume of North East History 37. If you have not reserved a copy
(which incudes NELHS membership) do so right away!
then on Tuesday
July 4th - Katy Shaw will lead off on 'Women
and the Miners Strike of 1984-5' from a literary, social & political
standpoint Both Meetings in
Gateshead Civic Centre, check board in foyer for room
